In November 2019, the Association for Learning Technology and Wikimedia Deutschland hosted an informal event in Berlin, bringing together a group of critical open educators, activists, and researchers came together.

The event titled “Open for a cause: fostering participation in society and education” gave room for critical conversations at the intersection of Open, participation, education, research, pragmatism and activism. Inspired by the OER20 Conference theme “The Care in Openness”, the event focused on ways in which Openness, individuals and communities can foster a participatory and democratic culture in Open work and in society in general.

The list of speakers and panelists included:

Lorna Campbell

Laura Czerniewicz

Maren Deepwell

Christian Friedrich

Martin Hawksey

Audrey Watters

The recordings are available below and at YouTube.

Invitation: join two “Missed Conversation” sessions

We held two “Missed Conversations” to enable participation beyond the event in Berlin. In two separate live-streamed online meetings, we invited everyone who is interested in continuing the conversations from the event. We invited the onsite speakers and panelists and virtual participants from around the globe to join us in two separate Missed Conversations:

Session 1: 28 February 2020, 3pm GMT

Virtual Buddies: Autumm Caines and Rissa Sorensen-Unruh

Session 2: 11 March 2020, 8pm GMT

Virtual Buddies: Nate Angell and Kate Molloy
